Frequently Asked Questions

What is a speech and language therapist?

Speech and language therapists support children and adults who experience challenges with their communication. Some therapists are qualified to support those with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties (known as dysphagia).

I have specialised as a children’s speech and language therapist, with particular interest in supporting pre-school and primary aged children. I thrive from working with and supporting those around the child, including parents, teachers and other professionals to make goals that are functional and personal.

Who am I?

I qualified from Birmingham City University in 2018 and started working as a full time Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS, initially working in a generalist role supporting a wide range of speech, language and communication needs. After a couple of years, I specialised and primarily supported children with speech sound disorders, language disorders (DLD) and Selective Mutism. Part of my role also involved completing Autism assessments (ADOS & ADI-R formal assessments) and working within a multi-disciplinary team within an Autism diagnostic service.

I am now working part time in the NHS supporting a range of speech, language and communication needs whilst also working privately.

Empowering parents, carers and staff to support children to develop and enhance their communication skills is something I always aim to do, whilst offering direct intervention (when appropriate) to work on set targets and strategies.

I am always seeking additional training and amongst other courses, I have attended Shape Coding training, Selective Mutism (Maggie Johnson) training, ADOS & ADI-R training and Core Vocabulary training.

Where are your sessions held?

Sessions can be held at your home or in your child’s setting (school or pre-school). I have availability to cover certain areas within the Northeast Lincolnshire area (Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Waltham, Brigg etc.) and North Lincolnshire (Caistor, Louth, Market Rasen, Horncastle).

I also work in an NHS team, therefore I am required to work outside of their NHS catchment area for this role so I am unable to support areas outside of the above. For families requiring support and advice for Selective Mutism (up to the end of primary school aged), I am able to offer coaching and consultative appointments for parents/, carers and educational settings virtually. Please get in touch for more information.

What ages do you support?

Due to having limited capacity, I am currently only supporting pre-school and primary school aged children. Depending on my availability I am sometimes able to offer a one-off assessment for advice for secondary aged children, please contact me to discuss this further.

What times/days do you work?

My usual working day is Mondays. There are occasions where I can offer weekend or evening appointments depending on availability and to be agreed in advance.

Do you offer training packages?

I am able to deliver bespoke training packages to educational providers focusing on Selective Mutism, language development and/or speech sound development. Please contact me to discuss your needs further.
